At GotenLab, your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the Plantalya mobile application.

1. Data We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to deliver and improve the app.

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Email address, only if you choose to create an account (an account is optional).
  • Password, securely hashed and never stored in plain text. Sign in with Apple or Google is also available.
  • Photos of your plants, taken or chosen by you, for identification, health diagnosis, care journal and rescue plans.
  • Messages you send to the AI botanist, and answers you give in questionnaires (plant location, watering habits, symptoms).
  • Your city, if you provide it, used for weather-based care advice. Precise location is never collected.
  • Plant list, reminders, notes and care history.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device data: model, OS version, language and region.
  • A random device identifier, used to manage your subscription and your data without an account.
  • Usage statistics, such as screens viewed and features used.
  • Crash reports.
  • Advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking in the iOS prompt.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • Provide the app: plant identification, diagnosis, reminders, rescue plans, AI botanist, care guides.
  • Process in-app purchases and manage subscriptions.
  • Send care reminders and weather alerts as notifications.
  • Analyze usage to improve the app.
  • Measure the performance of our advertising campaigns.
  • Respond to support requests, maintain security and prevent fraud.

We do not sell your personal data.

3. Artificial Intelligence

Some features send your content to AI providers to produce a result:

  • Plant photos are sent to Pl@ntNet for identification and, for health diagnosis and photo check-ups, to OpenAI, Google (Gemini) or Anthropic.
  • Messages to the AI botanist, and the plant context needed to answer (plant name, city, reminders, latest diagnosis), are sent to Anthropic, Google (Gemini) or OpenAI.
  • Care rhythm suggestions and plant descriptions may be generated by the same providers.

These providers process the content to return a response and, under our agreements, do not use it to train their models. Photos are not kept by us longer than needed for the feature (rescue plan photos are deleted after the plan ends).

4. Third-Party Services

  • RevenueCat: in-app purchase and subscription management.
  • PostHog (EU hosting): usage analytics and feature flags.
  • AppsFlyer: advertising attribution, subject to your tracking consent.
  • Sentry: crash and error reporting.
  • Pl@ntNet: plant identification.
  • OpenAI, Google (Gemini), Anthropic: AI features described in section 3.
  • Open-Meteo: weather data for your city.
  • Apple and Google: sign-in, if you use it.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.

5. Data Sharing

We share data only with the providers listed above, and when required to comply with legal obligations, prevent misuse or fraud, or as part of a business transfer with prior notice.

6. Data Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Server logs contain no personal content and identifiers are hashed. Access is restricted to what is needed to operate the service.

7. Data Retention

  • Without an account, your plants and reminders live on your device, and the server keeps only what is needed for reminders and subscriptions, linked to the device identifier.
  • With an account, your collection is backed up until you delete the account.
  • AI botanist conversations are deleted after 180 days. Rescue plan photos are deleted when the plan ends.
  • You can delete your account and data at any time from the app settings or by contacting us.

8. Your Rights

You may access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent (for example tracking, in iOS settings). Contact us at app@gotenlab.com.

9. Children’s Privacy

The app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

10. International Data Transfers

Data may be processed in the European Union (Estonia, PostHog EU) and in the United States (AI providers, RevenueCat, AppsFlyer, Sentry), with appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

11. Policy Updates

We may update this policy. Significant changes are announced in the app.
